چکیده

Applications that use games to harness human intelligence to perform various computational tasks are increasing in popularity and may be termed as human computation games (HCGs). Most HCGs are collaborative in nature, requiring players to cooperate within a game to score points. Competitive versions, where players work against each other, are a more recent entrant, and have been argued to address shortcomings of collaborative HCGs such as quality of computations. To date however, there is little work conducted in understanding how different HCG genres influence computational performance and players’ perceptions of them. In this paper, we study these issues using image tagging HCGs in which users play games to generate keywords for images. Three versions were created: collaborative HCG, competitive HCG and a control application for manual tagging. The applications were evaluated to uncover the quality of the image tags generated as well as users’ perceptions. Results suggest that there is a tension between entertainment and tag quality. While participants reported liking the collaborative and competitive image tagging HCGs over the control application, those using the latter seemed to generate better quality tags. Implications of the work are discussed.

POS Tagging Experts via Topic Modeling

Part of speech taggers generally perform well on homogeneous data sets, but their performance often varies considerably across different genres. In this paper we investigate the adaptation of POS taggers to individual genres by creating POS tagging experts. We use topic modeling to determine genres automatically and then build a tagging expert for each genre. We use Latent Dirichlet Allocation ...

Character-based Joint Segmentation and POS Tagging for Chinese using Bidirectional RNN-CRF

We present a character-based model for joint segmentation and POS tagging for Chinese. The bidirectional RNN-CRF architecture for general sequence tagging is adapted and applied with novel vector representations of Chinese characters that capture rich contextual information and sub-character level features. The proposed model is extensively evaluated and compared with a state-of-the-art tagger ...

A Unified POS Tagging Architecture and its Application to Greek

This paper proposes a flexible and unified tagging architecture that could be incorporated into a number of applications like information extraction, cross-language information retrieval, term extraction, or summarization, while providing an essential component for subsequent syntactic processing or lexicographical work. A feature-based multi-tiered approach (FBT tagger) is introduced to part-o...

Creating POS Tagging and Dependency Parsing Experts via Topic Modeling

Part of speech (POS) taggers and dependency parsers tend to work well on homogeneous datasets but their performance suffers on datasets containing data from different genres. In our current work, we investigate how to create POS tagging and dependency parsing experts for heterogeneous data by employing topic modeling. We create topic models (using Latent Dirichlet Allocation) to determine genre...

SEIMCHA: a new semantic image CAPTCHA using geometric transformations

As protection of web applications are getting more and more important every day, CAPTCHAs are facing booming attention both by users and designers. Nowadays, it is well accepted that using visual concepts enhance security and usability of CAPTCHAs. There exist few major different ideas for designing image CAPTCHAs. Some methods apply a set of modifications such as rotations to the original imag...
